The History of Caram
18th century
Our story begins centuries ago, in the colorful markets of Jaipur, India—a land famed for dazzling gemstones and exquisite handcrafted jewelry. Around the 18th century, guided by curiosity and passion, our family began its journey into the captivating world of precious gems.
1975
In 1975, this spirit of adventure brought Mr. Raj Jain, our family's 6th generation, to the historic town of Idar-Oberstein, Germany—a city revered for its mastery in cutting and trading colored gemstones. Here, he founded Caram, a name soon synonymous with rarity, quality, and timeless elegance.
2013
The journey continued eastward, and in 2013, under the vision of Rahul Jain, the family’s 7th generation, Caram opened its doors in vibrant Hong Kong. Rahul furthered our legacy, sourcing scarce gemstones and creating heirloom-quality jewelry, celebrated by connoisseurs worldwide.

They work closely with the company's suppliers to ensure that the gemstones are sourced from reputable mines and that the workers involved in the mining process are treated fairly and paid a fair wage.
02. Ensuring Safe & Fair Working Conditions
They conduct regular visits to the mines and factories to ensure that the working conditions are safe and that the workers are not subjected to any form of exploitation.
03. Conflict-Free Gemstone Assurance
They ensure that the gemstones are not associated with any conflict or illegal activities, such as those involving human rights abuses or environmental damage.
04. Strict Documentation & Traceability
They check that the suppliers have proper documentation for thegemstones, including certificates of origin and proof of ethical sourcing.
05. Compliance with Global Standards
They also ensure that the suppliers are in compliance with international regulations and standards, such as the Kimberley Process Certification Scheme, which aims to prevent the trade of conflict diamonds.
We are an Accredited Ethical Member (AEM) of the International Colored Gemstone Association (ICA). This means that we have committed ourselves to responsible, ethical, and sustainable gemstone trading practices, including responsible sourcing of gemstones, abiding by duties of disclosure regarding treatment of gemstones, and following the ICA Code of Ethics.
